Mountaineering

The mountains of Western Canada offer an untouched and expansive playground for climbers, and an incredible classroom environment for aspiring mountaineers. Great Canadian Trails has partnered with one of the top mountain guide companies in Canada, with over 30 years of experience, to offer incredible high altitude adventures. Our mountaineering expeditions involve trekking on rock, snow, and ice requiring the use of mountaineering boots, crampons and ice axe. Expect to carry up to 25-35lbs (12-15kgs) in your backpack. You will spend a reasonable portion of the trip at altitude (up to 3200m), normally staying in Alpine Club of Canada (ACC) mountain huts around 2000m - 2400m in elevation. If you are considering Intermediate or advanced level trips, you will need to discuss your preparation leading up to the trip with our expert staff.
